One of the best layman's overviews of the Japanese nuclear plant situation and radiation effects and potential that I've yet seen is here. Well worth going through the slides. It points out some of the media mistakes about rates vs dosages.
This whole thing is pretty much a non issue health-wise for the U.S. But as I've pointed out, the economic and supply chain impacts are much more concerning unless Japan gets over the panic quickly and back to work. (And nothing further unforeseen happens at the nuclear plants -- that Japanese earthquake map I posted a while back was pretty eye-opening, no?)
And yes, my heart continues to go out to the Japanese on their losses from the earthquake and tsunami as well as the nuclear workers at the plants.
