Family becomes firing squad as intruder is shot by almost every member of the household: "The phrase “wrong house” has never been more appropriate. An entire family participated in the shooting of an intruder who broke into a house less than a mile from his own residence. A mother, father, and adult son were awoken to the sound of the intruder breaking through their back door. By the time he reached the kitchen, the whole family was armed and ready to engage the threat."

We’re Doomed | The Z Blog: "That’s only half the problem. What sort of person reported the guy? presumably, someone complained. In Europe, it is against the law to hurt someone’s feelings so I would assume that’s the angle. The accused insulted the dead, which made someone sad so the accused must be made to suffer. This is old testament justice for the snowflake age. Instead of eye-for-an-eye, it’s boo-boo for boo-boo justice. The fact that this exists and people go along with it suggests there no hope for the West. New paper: Modulation of Ice Ages via Precession and Dust-Albedo Feedbacks | Watts Up With That?: "And so now we have the entire ice age forcing and feedback mechanism, laid out and plain for all to see. It begins when a Great Summer turns into a Great Winter, which reduces the sun-strength in the northern hemisphere and allows ice sheets to grow. This is a slow process that takes tens of thousands of years, and appears destined to turn the world into a complete snowball. However, the high albedo polar ice sheets have an Achilles heel – dust. As the ice sheets grow and the seas cool, CO2 also reduces. The concentration finally reaches the critical 190 ppm level where world flora begins to die, especially at higher altitude, and the Gobi steppe-lands turn into a true sand desert. This turns northern China into the equivalent of 1930s Dust Bowl America, and the ensuing dust storms dump thousands of tonnes of dust onto the northern ice sheets each year. And so when the next Great Summer comes along, the dusty polar ice sheets can warm and melt and the next interglacial is born. So CO2 can indeed cause global warming but its effect is much more pronounced at low concentrations, rather than high concentrations."

A Real Islam Policy for a Real America: "I repeat that I have no ill will against you as people. I act with no animosity. I act in recognition of reality. And the reality is—and you know it, and now you know that we know it—that your religion commands you to make all peoples and societies submit to the Islamic law, wherever and whenever you have the power and opportunity to do so.
And one of the opportunities that have been presented to you is immigration. A half century ago, when we of the West began to admit large numbers of Muslim immigrants, we were, though we did not realize it, replicating what the city of Medina did in the year 622 when it invited Muhammad and his followers to emigrate there from Mecca. The most famous event in the history of Islam, the event with which the Islamic calendar begins, was an act of immigration. Muhammad and his followers moved to Medina, and within two years he had become the dictator of Medina, and Islamic law ruled in that city. That is a paradigm of Islamic expansion.
When we invited you Muslims into the West, we were, without knowing it, imitating what the Medinans did 1,400 years ago. You saw the significance of what we were doing, and you couldn’t believe the opportunity that we had handed to you. You had never imagined that we would do this. But we did it, we gave you the opportunity. And now we have to close off that opportunity by reversing the policies that brought you here."
Science suggests genes can hugely influence academic performance — Quartz: "Some teachers have been reluctant to acknowledge the role of genes in school performance, perhaps because of an aversion to biological explanations—so-called “biological determinism“—and perhaps because of the false impression that if genes matter, teachers don’t.Agreed that teachers on average do better than they are given credit for.
Among other consequences, this has meant an overemphasis on the role of teacher skill and dedication in determining why some students thrive while others struggle.
There is direct evidence from twins that teacher differences are not responsible for much in the way of student differences in literacy. So teachers do matter in that they are the reasons why children know more at the end of the year or even the day. But our teachers are more uniformly effective than many give them credit for.
The Colorado story
It is unfortunate that in some education systems, such as in Colorado in the US, teacher employment and remuneration are tied to evaluations that give undue weight to student progress. This ignores the fact that some students struggle because of biological constraints on learning that can be overcome to an encouraging degree, but only with special and adequate resources."
And the untold story that this article glosses over is that teachers also can't change or even much affect the parents, extended family and friends and culture which -- regardless of the nature vs nurture debate -- can absolutely overwhelm the efforts of even the most saintly teachers.

Why did agriculture start 13,000 years ago? | Watts Up With That?: "But It is simple: it occurred because it Started Working.. 13,000 years ago."
Immigration and Brexit: How a rising tide of European immigrants fueled the Leave vote.: "As opposition leader, and later as prime minister, Cameron did much to legitimize doubts about mass immigration. He also pledged to drastically reduce net migration to the U.K. on explicitly nonracial grounds. The trouble is that while Britain could restrict non-European immigration, it could not limit European immigration without flouting EU rules. Since Cameron came to power in 2010, European immigration as a share of total immigration has crept upward for precisely this reason. Europe’s economic malaise and Britain’s robust labor market recovery has made it all but impossible for Cameron to hit his overly ambitious immigration targets.
Recognizing that his failure on immigration made him vulnerable, Cameron tried desperately to persuade other member states to allow Britain to change the rules. But he met with implacable resistance from the leaders of newer member states in central and Eastern Europe, who resented the suggestion that their citizens be treated any differently than Britons. This left Cameron dangerously exposed: Having made the case for why Britain should have more control over European immigration, Cameron’s failure to actually wrest that control from his European partners made him look more than a little ridiculous. All leading Brexiteers like Boris Johnson and Michael Gove had to do was point out that Cameron had failed to deliver.
Right now, the partisans of “Remain” are damning the likes of Johnson and Gove for Brexit. However, it is not at all clear if they are the ones to blame for Remain’s defeat. Had Cameron managed to secure a solid commitment from the European Union to do something as simple as limit the access European immigrants had to British welfare state benefits for, say, two or three years, Remain almost certainly would have won.* Instead, Cameron’s friends and allies in Europe left him out to dry."

TPP and the Law of Unintended Consequences | Armed and Dangerous: "TomA on 2016-04-12 at 11:39:33 said:Speaking of evolution, Matt Ridley's recent "The Evolution of Everything" is a somewhat uneven but at times smashing read. How smashing?
The answer to as to why this abomination (TPP) has occurred is that it is a reflection of the current mean caliber of our population. For nearly half a century now, unprecedented affluence and abundance have inexorably eroded the evolutionary gauntlet that imbued us with the rationality skill set and work ethic that made us a great people. We have become a nation of coddled malcontents that have been conditioned to believe that the gravy train will run on forever, no matter how stupidly we behave. I believe that history will eventually show that we passed the de Tocqueville tipping point sometime during the past decade or so.

In the pages that follow, I shall take on this creationism in all its forms.

"It's Pure Chaos Now; There Is No Way Back" - Venezuela Morgues Are Overflowing | Zero Hedge: "For many Venezuelans it no longer matters who is to blame. "It is a state policy of letting anarchy sink in," says a former policeman outside the gates of a compound in Caracas.
The FT adds that the former police station now houses the Frente 5 de Marzo, one of the political groups that consider themselves the keepers of socialism’s sacred flame. The gates bear the colours of the Venezuelan flag and are marked with bullet holes. The man believes there is something akin to a civil war going on.
“Venezuela is pure chaos now. It seems to me there is no way back,” the former policeman says. He is right.

Wait A Minute - Who's The Real Fascist? | Zero Hedge: "In other words, the all-powerful central state worshipped by Reich and all the other Establishment insiders, Democrat and Republican alike, is the true culmination of fascism. So if we strip away the Orwellian Doublespeak, we find that it's actually Reich and his fellow believers in the goodness and rightness of the all-powerful central state and central bank who are the real fascists.
The core belief of the Establishment is the central state should run everything: the state should run the mortgage industry (hey, it does--95% of all mortgages are government-backed or guaranteed); it should run the financial system via setting interest rates, buying bonds and other assets and bailing out/protecting private banks (hey, it does--thank you, Federal Reserve); it should control higher education (the central state not only funds the higher education cartel, it also owns most of the $1.4 trillion in student loan debt); it should control the economy via protecting and enforcing favored monopolies and cartels, and of course the state needs to track any domestic "threats" via surveillance and suppress any resistance to its power by force, media attacks, lawsuits, IRS investigations, social-media smear campaigns, etc.--which is precisely what the U.S. central state's toadies, lackeys, apparatchiks, thugs, bought-off media hacks, et al. do."

Weimar America | PJ Media: "To relearn the mentality of a Chamberlain or Daladier, listen to the contextualizations of a college president. And to talk to an uneducated person, approach a recent college graduate.
If all that is confusing, factor in the Trimalchio banquet of campus rock-climbing walls, students glued to their iPhone 6s, $200 sneakers, latte bars, late-model foreign cars in the parking lot, and yoga classes. Affluence, arrogance, and ignorance are quite a trifecta.
Bernie Sanders—a proud Eugene Debs-like socialist whose campaign in normal times would have been the stuff of caricature—is now running neck and neck with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Party nomination. He rails like an Old Testament prophet at Wall Street, often oblivious that Wall Street’s totem stands a mere three feet away on the debating stage.
Obama may have wrecked his party by losing the Congress and most of the state legislatures, but he certainly has moved it to the hard community-organizing left. Sanders has little appreciation that he is an artifact of free-market capitalism, which alone has created enough bounty for such a demagogue to call for massive redistribution—in a way impossible for socialists any longer in exhausted Cuba, Greece, Venezuela, or any other command-economy paradise. Where does Sanders think his statism has worked—China, North Korea, Bolivia, Cuba, or the ossified European Union?"

The Revolt | The Z Blog: "I think what were seeing is the long overdue reckoning for the mistakes of the 60’s and 70’s. The disastrous welfare programs, the massive expansion of the federal state, the rise of Cultural Marxism as the official religion of the ruling elite. The squalor of the 70’s should have forced a roll back of all these things. What should have happened in the 80’s and 90’s was a return to normalcy. Instead, the credit boom put all that on hold.Except I think the ruling class will find a way to put it back in the bottle this election. Not sure how they do it -- Michelle O or Slow Joe replace Hillary? -- but I still think we're done for...
Worse still, it fueled the growth of the managerial class that is decidedly hostile to normal people. Turn on the TV and you see an endless stream of degeneracy that mocks the foundations of western civilization and the traditions that have preserved and nurtured it. Traditional America is treated as a hate crime. The people in entertainment live like royalty, while accusing middle American of an endless list of crimes.
Pat Caddell, the veteran pollster and social observer, is calling this a revolution. He may not be way off base. It is a revolt, but a revolt against thirty years of a ruling class papering over the mistakes of the past. Egalitarianism, anti-racism and multiculturalism are fine in the faculty lounge, but they are a cultural dead end as a ruling class religion. The people in charge have run out of ways to hide this truth and now the long overdue hell is going to be paid."

Muslim migrants not as stupid and simple as politically-correct Europeans seem to believe: "Here’s what I think is going on: The refugees are acting as they are, not because they see themselves as charity cases, but because they see themselves as conquerors. They know perfectly well that one doesn’t defecate in a pool in which people (especially children) are swimming. They’re doing it because they are performing the literal equivalent of the expression “I don’t give a shit about you.” They know you’re not supposed to rape women . . . that is, unless those women are the products of conquest, in which case raping them is one of Mohamed’s commandments.Europe is done.
It’s almost funny seeing Europeans trying politely to teach their conquerors how not to treat those whom they have conquered. I wonder how long it will take before the Europeans figure out that they’re no longer in the driver’s seat. And then I wonder whether they’ll be able or willing to mount a counter-strike, or whether the twelve-hundred year-long Islamic jihad against Europe will finally have succeeded.
The European attitude reminds me of Ingrid Bergman’s brilliant comedic take on the typical European do-gooder, in Murder on the Orient Express. I can’t find a clip, and I haven’t seen the movie in decades, but I distinctly remember her riff about the responsibility Europeans have for “the brown people.” Europe’s condescending racist attitudes are alive and well — and they’re about to get a lot of Europeans killed, raped, or enslaved."
UPDATE: A commenter re-invents r/K Selection Theory from sand:
Europe’s condescending racist attitudes are alive and well — and they’re about to get a lot of Europeans killed, raped, or enslaved.
It's how many Europeans survived the slave raids of Islam for 1400 years. They collaborated with the slave raiders, sold them EUropeans, the same way Africans captured blacks and sold them to Islam.
Given that kind of genetic predisposition and cultural behavior, it got passed down after WWI and WWII wiped out the warrior genes. It's kind of obvious, if you look at it from that particular point of view. Islam has been here before. Why did Europe survive before but not now? Spain even pushed them back to North Africa. Is it because WWI and WWII happened?

Islam and Islamism in America in 2015: Part I: "Representative André Carson (D-Indiana), a convert to Islam, was appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. However, we have come to your country, therefore we have the right to do whatever we want to do, including kill you if you make us mad." — Former US President Bill Clinton."
The silent trade: universal objective ethics in action | Armed and Dangerous: "The rules of the silent trade embody at least two important ethical principles; nonaggression and voluntary reciprocal exchange. If we are asking whether these principles are universal and objective, what better evidence could we ask for than to have seen them mutually agreed on by different groups of humans without the ability to even speak to each other (let alone shared cultural assumptions) and then sustained down the generations for over a thousand years?Another RTWT from Eric.
The silent trade gives us grounds for a very strong claim: there is a universal objective ethics, and its building blocks include (a) nonaggression, (b) Schelling points, (c) honesty, and (d) voluntary reciprocal exchange. Or to put it more simply, “Do as you would be done by.” – the Golden Rule.
I have no doubt that the behavior of everyone in the Gold Coast story I told above seems natural to the reader. This is because we are actually neurologically wired to participate in universal ethics. Some equivalent of the Golden Rule is live in every human culture, and one of the first results to emerge from evolutionary psychology in the 1990s is that humans seem to come equipped with a cheater-detection module – our performance on logic problems improves when they are framed as questions about whether someone is violating reciprocity.
It would not be not stretching a point very far to say that the silent trade is in our DNA; its building blocks, such as the ability to recognize Schelling points and uncompleted aggression, certainly are. Through the lens of the silent trade, we can begin to see universal ethics as a culture-independent evolved behavior that solves a universal problem – how to achieve and maintain positive-sum cooperation."

The Z Blog | Sports, Culture and Other Stuff: "Here we see something I’ve written about often. Progressivism is a religion and it is a covetous one, similar to Islam. That means you cannot be both a Progressive and a Christian, without compromising on one or the other. You either slight your Progressive faith on issues like sodomy and abortion or your Christianity takes a back seat to your Progressivism. As my ancestors would say, “A man who chases two rabbits catches none.”Yes, the Z Man is my latest discovery.
That’s why the pews are empty. Any attempt to reconcile the teachings of the church with the teaching of the New Religion will just alienate both the Progressive parishioners and the normal ones. My friend the minister says this is the challenge facing his parish. Neither side is happy with the attempts to commingle the two religions so both sides find a reason to leave. The only folks holding out are the geezers who do so out of habit.
Ultimately, that’s a perfectly fine outcome for the Progressives. Just as the Muslims turned the Hagia Sophia into a mosque, Progressives would love nothing more than to turn the churches into moonbat meeting houses. If killing off the competing faith means killing off the church in which they have attended since childhood, they are fine with it. In the end, like the leadership of The Episcopal Church, they are Progressive first, everything else a distant second."
The Crisis of the Modern Elites | The Z Blog: "You see this in Europe and in the US. The European Left is pro-EU integration, pushing for the abolition of national sovereignty in favor of the committees of technocrats in Brussels. The EU will not just coordinate big macro issues like trade. They will make sure your food has the right amount of salt and your neighbor does not say mean things about you. The EU is The Borg.RTWT.
In the US, the Federal state is The Borg, gobbling up the rights and responsibilities of state and local government. At the dawn of the First World War, it was possible for an American to have no interaction with the national government, outside of the Post Office. His government was the town, village or city. Even his state government was alien to him. Today, it is impossible to live as an American without rubbing against the rasp of national government.
What we think of as liberalism is just a defense of these arrangements. The doctrines of the Left are contrary to observable reality and are mostly just expressions of sentimentality and resentment. The obsession with fringe minority groups, the weirder the better, is just a distraction, an argument to kill time. No serious scientist, for example, thinks transsexualism is anything other than a mental illness. Yet, the elites insist we use feminine pronouns when writing about Bob, who now wears a sundress to work. That incoherence is the reason both American political parties find themselves in turmoil. The voters of both parties, for various reasons, are questioning the rationality of the managerial state. The answer coming back from the elites is a combination of emotive nonsense and threats. The question Trump presents the Republicans, for example, is why is he less qualified for the job than any of the preferred candidates? The answer coming back is “shut up and do as you’re told.”
Every ruling elite needs a raison d’être. In the early medieval period, being the best warrior was enough. Later, having the magic blood was enough. Those reasons to be in charge may seem silly now, but they made sense at the time. They gave the people a reason, other than fear, to respect the arrangements. The modern managerial elite cannot articulate a reason to exist. That’s why they are in crisis."

Anger Fantasies | The Z Blog: "Trump is not tapping into anger. He’s tapping into the sensibility of the great majority. The people look up and see an endless parade of frivolous parasites who defend nothing but their own prerogatives at the expense of everyone else. What’s the point of voting for one party or the other when both sides are colluding against your interests? Why do we have these parties?
You don’t throw way something because it makes you angry. You discard that which you see has no value. That’s where the managerial class finds itself today. The people over whom they rule increasingly see no reason for that class to exist. Supporting a guy like Trump is not an act of anger. It is an act of disrespect. The Trump vote is the peasant who refuses to bow to his king. It’s the slave refusing an order from the master. The act is symbolic, not practical."

Will Europa Burn? | Gates of Vienna: "Uwe Hayek on January 11, 2016 at 1:05 am said:
We should consider ourselves very lucky, for now.
A few days after the Paris events, in Hanover, Police confiscated an ambulance full of explosives. Also three muslems had the intention to enter the football stadion with bomb vest, just as in Paris. In Hanover, the attack was thwarted, as the football match was entirely cancelled. In Paris too, the attack on the stadion was thwarted by the body search on the first muslem who tried to enter the stadion. When he saw he was going to be body searched, he ran and detonated his bomb vest in the street, outside the stadion, the two muslems ready to enter the stadion, also detonated their bomb vests in the streets. This was not their intention.
But lets piece together both scenarios for the stadion in Paris and the one in Hanover. Three muslems go in to the stadia with bomb vests. Then a diversion is created by a shooting in the entertainment district. Police and all ambulances are send out to the entertainmant district. (In Paris, to the Bataclan, and surroundings) Then the muslems in the stadia detonated their bombs. Let us say, 50 people are killed, and many wounded by these blasts. Ambulances are called, but none are available, they are all rushed to the entertainment district. But one ambulance shows up, is rushed inside the stadion, and it is this ambulance FULL of explosives.
It detonates and 20.000 people are killed in Paris and 20.000 are killed in Hanover, bringing the total casualties tio 40.000, including presidents Hollande and Merkel, who were/would have been/ present at the games.
Analysis of the explosives found in the Hanover ambulance show that the stadium would have collapsed.
Now use THESE numbers to extrapolate the number of 80.000 infiltrated active muslems .
