Paper Trail

The Captain's Journal » So What Were The Assets Available For Benghazi?: "Here’s a note to the DoD and State Department.  Listen very carefully.  Wolfowitz says “it would appear.”  That’s not even nearly good enough.  We won’t accept appearances, or anonymous sources.  There is a paper trail of deployments, locations, arming orders, force sizes, and so on and so forth.  There is yet another paper trail of orders, requests, directives and other communications that fateful night. We won’t stop until it is all public and assessed by all of us.  We will get it, eventually.  We will all see it.  We will know who did what, who said what, what assets were where, who lied, who equivocated, and who came clean.  We will name names. The players who have any integrity left should come clean now and spill everything.  It will go better for everyone in the long run.  But it won’t change the facts.  And the facts will be found out.  That’s our promise."

A Practical Solution

The Benghazi Crisis: A Practical Solution - By Stanley Kurtz - The Corner - National Review Online: "No doubt some folks will squawk here about the First Amendment, but have you ever actually read it? The First Amendment clearly states, “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press….” There’s nothing in there about an executive order. Legal sticklers might point out that an order to disband Fox News goes well beyond the traditional purview of the president’s executive powers. That may be true, but so do Obama’s orders gutting the work requirement of the Welfare Reform Act and setting up de facto amnesty for those who were brought to this country illegally as children. Executive orders that run well beyond the traditional powers of the presidency are obviously going to play a central role in a second Obama term, should he win one. So why wait?"
As Jonah Goldberg points out in his recent "Tyranny of Cliches", liberals will tell you they hold the high ground because they just want to find what works. For them. Not for you.

And as he has (unintentionally) announced to Medvedev, Obama will have even more flexibility in his second term...

An Ode To Fly Flicking

Fearful Asymmetry - By Richard Brookhiser - The Corner - National Review Online: "In August 1981 two Libyan fighter planes jumped a pair of F-14 Tomcats which were part of a naval exercise in the Gulf of Sidra; one fired a sidewinder missile. The Tomcats then shot the Libyan planes down.

The encounter happened in the morning Libya time, at night California time; President Reagan, in Los Angeles for a party, had gone to bed and did not learn of it until early the next day. His attitude was, there was no decision for him to make: The American fighters, and the battle group they belonged to, had their rules of engagement, which the fighter pilots had followed. At the time, George Will wrote, “When a horse flicks off a fly, it’s a crisis for the fly, not the horse.”

Reagan wasn’t told, yet we responded. Obama was told, yet we didn’t."

$60,000 Per Poor Household? Not After The Bureaucrats Got Their Cut...

Over $60,000 in Welfare Spent Per Household in Poverty | The Weekly Standard: ""According to the Census’s American Community Survey, the number of households with incomes below the poverty line in 2011 was 16,807,795," the Senate Budget Committee notes. "If you divide total federal and state spending by the number of households with incomes below the poverty line, the average spending per household in poverty was $61,194 in 2011."

This dollar figure is almost three times the amount the average household on poverty lives on per year. "If the spending on these programs were converted into cash, and distributed exclusively to the nation’s households below the poverty line, this cash amount would be over 2.5 times the federal poverty threshold for a family of four, which in 2011 was $22,350 (see table in this link)," the Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee note."
But even after the Obama "free phone" trickle down, calling these people impoverished -- especially compared to most of the rest of the world -- is simply ridiculous.

The Ghost O Walter Duranty

al Qaqaa and Benghazi: That Was Then, and This Is Now | Power Line: "Now contrast that history with what is happening this year. By any rational standard, the Benghazi story dwarfs al Qaqaa by several orders of magnitude. An American ambassador is dead, along with three other Americans. The administration has been caught red-handed, lying about the nature of the attack on the Benghazi consulate by describing it as a spontaneous mob action when the administration knew it was a carefully planned terrorist attack, scheduled for the September 11 anniversary. And it is now being reported that valiant Americans went to their deaths because the Obama administration turned a deaf ear to their calls for help. Al Qaqaa, by comparison, was what some of our readers call a nothingburger. Yet, while the Times played al Qaqaa for everything it was worth in 2004, it has tried to cover up the infinitely more significant Benghazi story.

The inescapable conclusion is that the New York Times is not a serious news source, but rather is an organ of the Democratic Party. Whether the Times covers a story or not has little to do with the importance of the story, and has much to do with the partisanship that suffuses the newspaper. This is why intelligent news consumers have zero respect for the New York Times, even though individual reporters there sometimes do a good job."

(Not So) Beautiful Conformity

Why beauty is rarely worth it - Telegraph: "Beauty is boring. And the evidence is piling up. An article in the journal Psychological Science now confirms what partygoers have known forever: that beauty and charm are no more directly linked than a high IQ and a talent for whistling. A group of scientists set out to discover whether physically attractive people also have appealing character traits and values, and found, according to Lihi Segal-Caspi, who carried out part of the research, that “beautiful people tend to focus more on conformity and self-promotion than independence and tolerance”. Certainly, while a room full of beautiful people might be impressively stiff with the whiff of Chanel No 5, the intellectual atmosphere will be carrying a very low charge. If positive at all."

They Win

The Panetta Doctrine - By Jonah Goldberg - The Corner - National Review Online: "Which brings us to the second, I think bigger, problem with the Panetta doctrine. If the circumstances in Libya didn’t meet the “enough information” threshold for a rescue attempt or some other form of intervention, then what does? And, note, Panetta & Co. make it sound like the decision to let the Americans on the scene twist in the wind was sort of a no-brainer, not a difficult decision. So what happened in Libya didn’t even come close to the threshold for intervention.

What does that mean? Well, it seems to me that any embassy or consulate subjected to a surprise attack will likely catch the administration off guard. That’s why they call them “surprise attacks,” after all. According to the Panetta doctrine, the very essence of what makes a surprise attack a surprise attack likely precludes any commitment of U.S. forces to repel it. The message to our diplomats and troops: You’re on your own. The message to terrorists: As long as you keep your attacks minimally confusing, you win.

That’s outrageous. "
Holy crap.

The Indictment

Why did Obama choose to “stand down” in Benghazi? | Power Line: "Voters, then, must assess the administration’s handling of Benghazi with limited information. But we do know this: (1) the administration erred grievously by leaving open our mission in Benghazi while turning down requests for more security, (2) the administration made the wrong decision on the day of the attack by not bringing our military to bear, a decision consistent with Obama’s instincts, and (3) the administration has not been forthcoming or honest in its discussion of Benghazi after the fact.

These facts, without more, present a serious indictment of Obama."

OK, It Could Be Even Worse...

Like this:

Benghazi: No Other Explanation Fits: "Which begs the question: Did President Obama, Hillary Clinton and other White House and State Department staff literally watch our people die over there, while they did nothing?

Throughout this debacle, the question on the minds of news viewers and those news organizations willing to report relevant developments has been: Why? First, they asked why the administration did not provide adequate security for its foreign service personnel in one of the most dangerous places on Earth on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on America. Then, it became a question of why they didn’t do so after credible threats had been voiced by Ambassador Stevens and others. Now, it has become a question of why the administration withheld aid for the doomed men as they begged for it, with intelligence service personnel ready, willing, and able to provide it, and heavier armaments within an hour or two away.

At this juncture, the evidence has accumulated so unambiguously on the side of the Obama administration not wanting Ambassador Stevens and the other men rescued, despite being fully cognizant of their peril.

I believe that President Obama not only knew of that peril, but knew beforehand that the embassy would be attacked, because he facilitated the attack himself."
I think it's more likely it was the Iranians fighting back. But I can certainly believe it's stuck together this way instead.

How Bad Could Benghazi Be?

This bad:

The hidden real truth about Benghazi: "According to my source, Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 to meet with his Turkish counterpart, who reportedly warned Stevens that the operation was compromised. They met in person so that Stevens could be shown overhead satellite images, taken by the Russians, of nefarious activities taking place in Turkey. But just what were these nefarious activities.

It is reasonable to suspect that these activities were more dire than just your average “gun running” operation. Since the overthrow of Qaddafi, it is estimated that upwards of 40 million tons of weapons and arms were shipped out of Libya to Syria. But it was also known inside intelligence circles that Qaddafi possessed chemical weapons in addition to numerous surface-to-air missiles. Could it be that Russia obtained unmistakable surveillance footage of the anti-Assad “rebels” being shown how to load chemical payloads onto missiles inside Turkey near the border of Syria? Weapons, of course, that were shipped from Libya by the CIA in conjunction with various Muslim Brotherhood rebel groups. If so, such weapons could be used as a “false flag” type of operation—one that would be implemented to “set-up” Assad by making it appear that he was using these weapons on forces dedicated to his overthrow. The blowback by the international community would be swift and punishing, and the entirety of the civilized world would be demanding his overthrow. NATO would then be used to expedite his ouster, and Russia’s moral position within the international community would be weakened. Was the meeting held to show Stevens that the operation was compromised and that they had to stop?

A Nation/State sponsored attack?

While the administration asserts that the attack in Benghazi was conducted by a group of rebels acting alone, the facts seem to indicate otherwise. The level of coordination was such that we did not deploy military assets, located just an hour or two away by air, to rescue Stevens and the others at the CIA operations center in their time of need. If, as the administration contends, that the attack was perpetuated by a group of frenzied rebels, our military could have easily handled them in short order. So why was there no rescue operation?

Perhaps the statements made yesterday by Leon Panetta, U.S. Secretary of Defense provides some insight if one analyzes the essence of those statements. Among other things, Panetta said that “...the basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on…” Well, it has been confirmed we did know what was taking place on the ground in Benghazi, so exactly what did Panetta mean by this statement?

Against the backdrop of the official story, it makes little sense. If, however, one considers the alternative, that the attack was coordinated and was a nation/state sponsored attack, then it becomes clearer. Panetta and the highest levels of this administration likely knew exactly what we were doing, and knew that the operation was compromised. They knew, or had reason to believe, that the attack was being conducted at a nation/state level in response to our covert operation in Libya and arming the anti-Assad Syrian opposition.

Although Russia figures prominently here, Iran now comes into focus as Russia is not likely to directly engage U.S. forces. They must, however, protect their interests. Much like we were using anti-Assad forces to advance our objectives in Syria, Russia was using Iranian-backed forces to protect theirs. It appears that the attacks were conducted or facilitated by Iranian assets—perhaps as many as three teams of assets in Benghazi.

As the White House and other agencies monitored intelligence in real-time, they faced a dilemma. They knew that the nation/state sponsored attack teams were lying in wait for U.S. rescue forces to arrive, which is the reason the fight did not conclusively end sooner. They did not know exactly where all of the attack teams were, but knew they were present based on signal communication intercepts. Could they risk such exposure by deploying a rescue team to Benghazi, only to end up with another Black Hawk down type scenario? In addition to that scenario, the entire operation now becomes exposed for what it is. Take another look at Panetta’s statement in that context. Does it now make more sense? Bad PR in an election year, no?"
If this is true, will the Dems be able to still cover it up after the election? My guess is that we are so far gone as a country that they'll get away with it. And almost certainly if they win.

The Bottom Line

'Stand Down': U.S. Had Two Drones, AC-130 Gunship, and Targets Painted in Benghazi: "Obama says he was doing everything he could, and Panetta says we didn't react more strongly because we weren't sure what was going on. Yet we now know two drones were sending back video of the attack in real time, and at least one of those drones may have been armed. We also know a massive AC-130 gunship could have been used for backup as well, but it was not. And we know that security was begging for backup and even marking targets with lasers for the drones and/or gunship so they could make quick work of the attackers.

Yet Obama chose not to respond, and that's the bottom line."

Benghazigate: The state of the story | Power Line: "Even for one who follows the news obsessively — one such as I — it has been extremely difficult to keep up with the developments in the Benghazigate story this week. In his weekly column, Mark Steyn incorporates Thursday’s and Friday’s breaking news and brings the story up to date with his characteristic flair:
“We’re going to have that person arrested and prosecuted that did the video,” said Hillary Clinton. No, not the person who made the video saying that voting for Barack Obama is like losing your virginity to a really cool guy. I’ll get to that in a moment. But Secretary Clinton was talking about the fellow who made the supposedly Islamophobic video that supposedly set off the sacking of the Benghazi consulate. And, indeed, she did “have that person arrested.” By happy coincidence, his bail hearing has been set for three days after the election, by which time he will have served his purpose. These two videos — the Islamophobic one and the Obamosexual one — bookend the remarkable but wholly deserved collapse of the president’s reelection campaign."

Holy s**t; someone needs to 5150 Joe Biden [Darleen Click] | protein wisdom: "Thursday on the Glenn Beck Program, Glenn interviewed Charles Woods whose son Tyrone Woods, a former Navy SEAL, was killed during the attacks on the Libyan embassy in Benghazi. The interview is one of the first he had done since his son’s death. During his talk with Glenn, he revealed the shocking details of his meetings with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. According to Woods, none of our country’s leaders were empathetic with his situation, nor were they honest about what really happened to his son. And it has only been through his personal faith that he has remained centered and calm through this tragedy. [...] “There were four pods at Andrews Air Force Base and when he (Obama) came over to where we were I could tell he was very conflicted person who was not at peace with himself. Shaking hands with him quite frankly was like shaking hands with a dead fish. His face was pointed towards me but he would not look me in the eye. His eyes were over my shoulder and not in a forceful voice said ‘I’m really sorry Mr. Woods.’” “And I could tell he was not sorry. He had no remorse,” Woods continued."

Fraud-O-rama

‘There Is No Voter Fraud’ Myth Takes a Torpedo - By John Fund - The Corner - National Review Online: "We are constantly told by liberals that there is no voter fraud — or at least not any that involves voting at the polls.  Well, the son of Representative Jim Moran, the Democrat who represents Virginia’s Washington suburbs, has just resigned as field director for his father’s campaign for essentially proving them wrong. Moran was caught by videographer James O’Keefe’s camera advising an undercover reporter on how to commit in-person voter fraud. The scheme involved forging utility bills that would satisfy Virginia’s voter-ID law and then rely on the assistance of Democratic lawyers stationed at the polls to make sure the votes were counted."

Debate: Obama’s Auto-Bailout Whopper - By Henry Payne - Planet Gore - National Review Online: "For the record, Mitt Romney has always suggested that he favored a managed bankruptcy with government support if needed (a fact that grates on many libertarian-minded conservatives) — despite Obama & Associated Press attempts to twist the facts. “The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk,” wrote Romney in a 2008 New York Times op-ed. He has expanded on this view in numerous interviews with this writer and others — perhaps most explicitly in an interview with our Detroit News editorial board in February."

The Cheerful Billionaire Who Thinks Obama's a Socialist

The Cheerful Billionaire Who Thinks Obama's a Socialist - Businessweek: "The unusual ad, “Freedom to Succeed,” is the handiwork of Thomas Peterffy, 68, an emigre from socialist Hungary who founded Interactive Brokers, the world’s largest online broker, and built a fortune of $7.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Peterffy, who is ruddy and thickset, narrates and appears in the ad, which intersperses shots of him as a young boy with scenes from the aftermath of Hungary’s failed 1956 revolution. “I grew up in a socialist country and I know what that does to people,” he says solemnly, as images of poverty and suffering flash by. “There is no hope, no freedom, no pride in achievement. The nation became poorer and poorer.” The ad is also striking because it essentially takes up the plight of the poor, albeit from an unusual angle. Peterffy suggests that “badmouthing success” of American capitalists causes them to stop succeeding and paying the taxes that support the less fortunate. The ad, while slightly ridiculous, is deeply sincere and also quite affecting. It argues on behalf of the “47 percent,” not against them."

The President’s Fundamentally Flawed Debate Statement (Libya Edition) - By David French - The Corner - National Review Online: "While the jury is still out on the last item (and I’d readily concede that President Obama’s drone program has been quite deadly), the first two points are almost laughable. Did we beef up our security and procedures? Maybe now, but in the days immediately following the attacks, our embassies in Yemen and Tunisia were actually overrun, with the black flag of jihad shamefully replacing the Stars and Stripes over our own diplomatic soil. Additionally (and even more shamefully), the remains of our diplomatic outpost in Benghazi were so unsecured that CNN was able to waltz on to the property and scoop up our own ambassador’s private diary. Sensitive documents likely fell into enemy hands. As for the investigation, President Obama omitted a crucial implied responsibility: Don’t deceive the American people in the course of your investigation. Here, the record is simply indisputable and captured vividly by American Crossroads:"

OMG was this correct!  The question actually asked was inane, but Obama couldn’t even answer it, instead avoiding it for many minutes and then finishing with a generic “we’re going to look into this thoroughly” kind of response. When Romney responded by pointing out that it took many days for Obama to even call the events in Benghazi an act of terror, Obama responded that he did call it an act of terror in the Rose Garden on 9/12. Candy Crowley jumped in, interrupting Romney to support Obama’s statement. Obama did, ONCE, refer to a generic “act of terror” on 9/12, at the end of his remarks in which he repeatedly referred to the attack being a response to the Mohammed YouTube video. Specifically, Obama said, “No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.”

Crowley’s intervention to support Obama, in my opinion, was inappropriate, unfair, and lop-sided. She acted like a cheerleader, and as a result of her unprofessional conduct, she provoked pro-Obama folks in the audience to clap, which further amplified the unprofessional, gang-bang on this important issue.

Fact checker and time will tell the story of this debacle and expose Obama’s outright lie."

Hillary Isn't Harry -- ...

...only Obama can be Harry. As in Harry "the buck stops here" Truman. But to even try to think the thought one just bursts out in laughter at the possibility of it ever happening in any fashion within parsecs of honest and humble admittance. Not when there are so many that can be under-bussed for Obama's continuing aggrandizement.

Hillary Doesn't Get Obama Off The Hook - Maggie's Farm: "Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) today released the following statement on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s comments this evening regarding the terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on September 11, 2012:

“We have just learned that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has claimed full responsibility for any failure to secure our people and our Consulate in Benghazi prior to the attack of September 11, 2012. This is a laudable gesture, especially when the White House is trying to avoid any responsibility whatsoever.

“However, we must remember that the events of September 11 were preceded by an escalating pattern of attacks this year in Benghazi, including a bomb that was thrown into our Consulate in April, another explosive device that was detonated outside of our Consulate in June, and an assassination attempt on the British Ambassador. If the President was truly not aware of this rising threat level in Benghazi, then we have lost confidence in his national security team, whose responsibility it is to keep the President informed. But if the President was aware of these earlier attacks in Benghazi prior to the events of September 11, 2012, then he bears full responsibility for any security failures that occurred. The security of Americans serving our nation everywhere in the world is ultimately the job of the Commander-in-Chief. The buck stops there.

“Furthermore, there is the separate issue of the insistence by members of the Administration, including the President himself, that the attack in Benghazi was the result of a spontaneous demonstration triggered by a hateful video, long after it had become clear that the real cause was a terrorist attack. The President also bears responsibility for this portrayal of the attack, and we continue to believe that the American people deserve to know why the Administration acted as it did.”"

Hillary Jumps Over The Bus?

Benghazi Cover-up: Hillary not going to go under the bus quietly [Darleen Click] | protein wisdom: "Today the confusion only worsened yet again when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters that her agency was not the source of misinformation concerning the attacks, charging instead that the White House was the source of the false mantra that the murders were spurred by an anti-Muslim film made in the United States. Clinton told reporters that when Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, made her rounds on every Sunday morning news show to claim the film motivated the attacks, the information had been fed to her by the White House and not the intelligence community in the State Department or the CIA. Not only does Clinton’s statement contradict early White House accounts but directly contradicts statements made by Vice President Biden during the debate."
Could it actually be that neither O Duce or Shrillary have packed parachutes for their current dives from Libyan space? And Libya really IS Obama's "Mission Accomplished" meltdown? Maybe It Would Have Been More Humane For Obama To Have Just Hooked Ambassador Stevens Up To A Chevy Volt Battery And Electrocuted Him

KELLY: Libya security cut while Vienna embassy gained Chevy Volts - Washington Times: "In a May 3, 2012, email, the State Department denied a request by a group of Special Forces assigned to protect the U.S. embassy in Libya to continue their use of a DC- 3 airplane for security operations throughout the country. The subject line of the email, on which slain Ambassador Chris Stevens was copied, read: “Termination of Tripoli DC-3 Support.” Four days later, on May 7, the State Department authorized the U.S. embassy in Vienna to purchase a $108,000 electric vehicle charging station for the embassy motor pool’s new Chevrolet Volts. The purchase was a part of the State Department’s “Energy Efficiency Sweep of Europe” initiative, which included hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on green program expenditures at various U.S. Embassies."

Guest Post: "The Fed's Sole Purpose: Keeping The Banks Afloat" - G. Edward Griffin | ZeroHedge: "In this explosive video, Casey Summit speaker G. Edward Griffin, author of The Creature from Jekyll Island, talks about the Fed's real role in the US economy and why – contrary to common belief – it is not this banking cartel's mission to act in the best interest of the American public."

Potemkin Update ... And Forecast

Ace of Spades HQ: "In 1989 doctor Theodore Dalrymple through a confluence of events was one of 100 British guests allowed to tour North Korea. Here is his experience inside Pyongyang Department Store Number 1:
It didn't take long to discover that this was no ordinary department store. It was filled with thousands of people, going up and down the escalators, standing at the corners, going in and out of the front entrance in a constant stream both ways - yet nothing was being bought or sold. I checked this by standing at the entrance for half an hour. The people coming out were carrying no more than the people entering."
And Potemkin Obama's America is almost here:
Communism always leads to Potemkin countries where the citizens lead sad Potemkin lives as cogs in the machinery of national deceit:
But the most sombre reflection occasioned by Department Store Number 1 is that concerning the nature of the power that can command thousands of citizens to take part in a huge and deceitful performance, not once but day after day, without any of the performers ever indicating by even the faintest sign that he is aware of its deceitfulness, though it is impossible that he should not be aware of it. ...But this is no joke, and the humiliation it visits upon the people who take part in it, far from being a drawback, is an essential benefit to the power; for slaves who must participate in their own enslavement by signalling to others the happiness of their condition are so humiliated that they are unlikely to rebel.

Woods & Murphy Refute 11 Myths About The Fed

Woods & Murphy Refute 11 Myths About The Fed | ZeroHedge: "The other day the Huffington Post ran an article by a Bonnie Kavoussi called “11 Lies About the Federal Reserve.” And you’ll never guess: these aren’t lies or myths spread in the financial press by Fed apologists. These are “lies” being told by you and me, opponents of the Fed. Bonnie Kavoussi calls us “Fed-haters.” So she, a Fed-lover, is at pains to correct these alleged misconceptions. She must stop us stupid ingrates from poisoning our countrymen’s minds against this benevolent array of experts innocently pursuing economic stability.

Here are the 11 so-called lies (she calls them “myths” in the actual rendering), and my responses.

HuffPo’s Myth #1: “The Fed actually prints money.”

She leads off with this? As if this is some big discovery that will refute the end-the-Fed people? When we talk about Fed money-printing, we are speaking in shorthand. We’re pretty certain someone like Ron Paul knows the Fed doesn’t actually print money. But he, along with pretty much the whole financial world, speaks of the Fed as printing money. You know why? Because it’s a teensy bit more convenient than saying, “We need the Fed to credit some banks’ accounts with increased balances, which it does by means of a computer, though if these balances are lent out and the borrowers prefer to use some of this lent money as cash, the Treasury will go ahead and print the cash.”"

Not Serious

The PJ Tatler » Obama Camp Goes Very Small with Big Bird Ad: "Do you know what the real message of Obama’s Big Bird ad is? That no one anywhere in the Obama campaign is serious about anything. They’re not serious about the budget or any of the problems we face. If we can’t even discuss the possibility of cutting something as small as the PBS subsidy in a time of hundreds of TV channels available 24/7 by cable or satellite, then we can’t really discuss cutting the federal subsidy to anything. Well, except defense. Democrats are consistent about that one — even when the threats to America are on the rise, they’ll cut the military’s capability. But Big Bird? A dude in a bird suit is literally more sacred than our religious freedom to Team Obama."

PICKET: New book shows U.S. top earners pay larger share of taxes than any other industrialized nation - Washington Times: ""The United States is actually more dependent on rich people to pay taxes than even many of the more socialized economies of Europe. According to the Tax Foundation, the United States gets 45 percent of its total taxes from the top 10 percent of tax filers, whereas the international average in industrialized nations is 32 percent. America’s rich carry a larger share of the tax burden than do the rich in Belgium (25 percent), Germany (31 percent), France (28 percent), and even Sweden (27 percent).""

U.S. officer got no reply to requests for more security in Benghazi - Yahoo! News Canada: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. security officer twice asked his State Department superiors for more security agents for the American mission in Benghazi months before an attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, but he got no response. The officer, Eric Nordstrom, who was based in Tripoli until about two months before the September attack, said a State Department official, Charlene Lamb, wanted to keep the number of U.S. security personnel in Benghazi "artificially low," according to a memo summarizing his comments to a congressional committee that was obtained by Reuters."

Our Clunker President

Articles: Old Interview Sheds New Light on Obama's Debate Flop: "In the interview with Richardson, the audience sees no sign at all of the raging Obama and, for that matter, very little sign of the writer Obama.  Obama told Richardson he was "a very good writer" -- he is not -- but he offered this tidbit in an academic context.  He spoke not a word about the writer's craft and volunteered no information about Dreams.  When Richardson offered that the book was "beautifully written." Obama stumbled around to deflect the conversation:
Yeah. Well, you know, I think that, you know, as I wrote about in the book, 'Dreams From My Father,' which is really sort of an exploration of my father and my mother and what legacy they left me, I think a lot of my early memories are sort of an almost idyllic sort of early childhood in Hawaii where there weren't many things to worry about, and I think everybody's childhood, to some degree, is like that.
Sentences like this clunker tell us why the genius Obama lost the last debate and why he will lose the next one.
This is definitely a RTWT.

There Is No God But Allah Obama

Obama’s ring: ‘There is no god but Allah’: "In an interview during the 2008 presidential campaign, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof questioned Obama about his Islamic education in Indonesia, where he lived from 1967 to 1971. After acknowledging that he once got in trouble for making faces during Quran study classes in his elementary school, Obama recited for Kristoff the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, the Adhan. The prayer incorporates the Shahada, the expression of Islamic faith, with each line repeated twice:

Allah is supreme! Allah is supreme!
I witness that there is no god but Allah
I witness that Muhammad is his prophet

Kristof noted Obama recited the prayer in Arabic “with a first-rate accent.” “In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as ‘one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset,’” Kristoff wrote. Gabriel told WND that a person wearing a ring with “There is no God except Allah” demonstrates the significance of Islam in his life. “Christians never use the statement,” he pointed out. “By wearing the Shahada on jewelry, a person communicates that Allah is in control of all circumstances. Allah controls you; Allah is the one and only one.”"

Scrutonium

iowahawk: White House Scientists Struggle to Contain Outbreak of Scrutonium: "WASHINGTON DC - Engaged a relentless battle against time and fatigue, a select group of message scientists assembled by the White House's Center for Narrative Control say they will take "all steps necessary" to contain a recent outbreak of scrutonium, a deadly poll-eating supervirus that attacks the immuno-hope system, leaving victims vulnerable to material facts.   "Failure is simply not an option," said an exhausted Mission Chief David Axelrod. "If left unchecked, this virus may actually force us to move back to Chicago." The recent re-infection of scrutonium into the body politic has been a harrowing turn of fortune for Axlerod and his scientific team. In November 2008, they had declared scrutonium "all but extinct," although they kept small amounts of the strain for use in laboratory experiments with Republican tax returns. It was thought to be in containment as recently as five weeks ago, with scientists citing poll results showing resistance to doses of unemployment previously considered fatal."
The Hawk is on a roll again. Laugh your way through the whole thing!

Logan: Obama Is Lying to America

"The Lid": CBS's Lara Logan: Obama Is Lying to America: "Last week 60 Minutes Correspondent  Lara Logan delivered a keynote address at the Better Government Association annual luncheon, which the Chicago Sun Times called “a provocative speech” to some 1,100 movers in government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. The speech was more than provocative it was a warning to anyone who wishes to hear.  She explained that the Taliban, al Qaeda and its proxies haven’t gone away and are in fact re-energized and coming back in force. Logan also informed the crowd that a “lie” is being propagated by the American government.
Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11. Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back."
Well, people have a tendency to wake up when they've been through what she has. But by then it's often too late. Thank God she's still alive to talk about it...

(CONT’D): Our Crisis Of Bad Jobs. “Median household income—the midpoint income of all American households—was reported by the Census Bureau (whose data is a year or so behind) to be down in 2011 compared to 2010, despite an economic recovery that began in mid-2009. More disturbing, that figure is now down to around $50,000, which is 7 percent or so below what it was in 2000 and its lowest level since 1996, adjusted for inflation. Incomes are falling still more sharply for black households. . . . The reason that the economic recovery is coinciding with middle class decline is increasingly clear. America is creating jobs, but they are bad jobs: retailing, food preparation, and table waiting, for example—in other words, jobs that don’t pay much.” Posted by Glenn Reynolds at 10:50 am"

Kurtz Has A Good Question

Obama’s New Strategy - By Stanley Kurtz - The Corner - National Review Online: "So what’s Obama’s strategy now? Think about it. This is a serious problem for him. For months conventional wisdom has held that the state of the economy leaves the president little choice but to hammer Romney to make him seem unacceptable. Now that this has failed, what is left for Obama? He can’t shift to an optimistic “morning in America” campaign without becoming a laughingstock. So what does he do? He tries several new lines of attack to see what works, I suppose. But time is running out and the Obama campaign could quickly take on the same sense of drift that Romney’s been struggling with up to now. This isn’t just a debate loss, for Obama, it forces him to shift his strategy when no good alternatives exist. That’s a big deal."

Because “President Obama’s Executive Branch and regulatory policies have hurt American small businesses and manufacturers,” according to 69 percent of the business owners surveyed."

Twin Demons

Twin Demons - Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr. - Mises Daily: "The 20th century was the century of total war. Limitations on the scope of war, built up over many centuries, had already begun to break down in the 19th century, but they were altogether obliterated in the 20th. And of course the sheer amount of resources that centralized states could bring to bear in war, and the terrible new technologies of killing that became available to them, made the 20th a century of almost unimaginable horror. It isn't terribly often that people discuss the development of total war in tandem with the development of modern central banking, which — although antecedents existed long before — also came into its own in the 20th century. It's no surprise that Ron Paul, the man in public life who has done more than anyone to break through the limits of what is permissible to say in polite society about both these things, has also been so insistent that the twin phenomena of war and central banking are linked. "It is no coincidence," Dr. Paul said, "that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking.""
