A Warning

A warning to college profs from a high school teacher: "Where do I begin? I spent the last thirty minutes listening to a group of arrogant and condescending noneducators disrespect my colleagues and profession. I listened to a group of disingenuous people whose own self-interests guide their policies rather than the interests of children. I listened to a cabal of people who sit on national education committees that will have a profound impact on classroom teaching practices. And I heard nothing of value. “I’m thinking about the current health-care debate,” I said. “And I am wondering if I will be asked to sit on a national committee charged with the task of creating a core curriculum of medical procedures to be used in hospital emergency rooms.”"
RTWT.  This is actually from a block quote withing the article.

Ralph Raico On The Industrial Revolution: He Who Controls The Past Controls The Future

Wow:

Ralph Raico on the Industrial Revolution: "The immense blessings of modernity – of liberal, market, innovative, bourgeois, “capitalist” society – come into stark relief when compared to people’s material and spiritual lives of as recently as a mere three centuries ago.  In this splendid 76-minute long video from 1986, the historian Ralph Raico sets the historical record straight – an effort that blasts away at mountains of myths that continue to crush our ability to understand our past and to put our current lives into proper perspective.  Note, by the way (from around the 30-minute mark), Ralph’s important emphasis on the fact that war is emphatically not an economic stimulant.

Please, do not miss this video.  (HT Greg Rehmke)"

If this doesn't open your eyes, nothing will.  Among many other other wonderful insights, this is X-Ray vision into the origins of Orwell's 1984 theme of the high and the (manipulated and brainwashed by the high) low ("proles") against the middle.

His Lips Keep Moving

Fmr Sec Def Gates: ‘Political Leaders Have No Problem Talking Out of Both Sides of Their Mouths’ - By Eliana Johnson - The Corner - National Review Online: "Asked about the conspicuous silence among many who condemned the Bush administration for authorizing the use of enhanced interrogation techniques, Gates said, “I think a lot of our political leaders have no problem talking out of both sides of their mouths when it comes to issues like these.”

On the campaign trail in 2008, then-Senator Obama said in an interview with the Boston Globe that he rejected the view that the president can do whatever he deems necessary to protect national security: “I reject the use of signing statements to make extreme and implausible claims of presidential authority,” he explained. As a result, he argued that the president may not detain Americans without charges as unlawful enemy combatants. "
I refer of course to this.

Missing The O

MSM conceals Christopher Dorner’s “ideology” | Power Line: "Confirmation of my latter thesis can be found in the handling of Christopher Dorner’s rambling manifesto in which he purports to explain himself. Dorner, it turns out, is a fan of President Obama, Dianne Feinstein, Colin Powell, Piers Morgan, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, Soledad O’Brien, Wolf Blitzer, Meredith Vieira, Tavis Smiley, Anderson Cooper, and Ellen DeGeneres. Meanwhile, he reviles the NRA and Wayne LaPierre, believing that the latter’s advocacy warrants the death of his family before his eyes.

But, as Charles Cooke points out, “in the combined 3,240 words of the lead stories from the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Associated Press, there is no mention whatsoever of the political contents of Dorner’s screed.” To be sure, they all mention the manifesto, but not what’s in it, even in New York Times’ specific post about the document."
The shock at the corruption of our very own Pravda never ends, does it?  Me neither.

And You Wonder Why They Buried Benghazi Before The Election

Panetta: Obama Absent Night of Benghazi | The Weekly Standard: ""While Americans were under assault in Benghazi, the president found time for a non-urgent, politically useful, hour-long call to Prime Minister Netanyahu. And his senior national security staff had to find time to arrange the call, brief the president for the call, monitor it, and provide an immediate read-out to the media. I suspect Prime Minister Netanyahu, of all people, would have understood the need to postpone or shorten the phone call if he were told that Americans were under attack as the president chatted. But for President Obama, a politically useful telephone call—and the ability to have his aides rush out and tell the media about that phone call—came first.""

ENDGAME: Argentina Freezes Supermarket Prices To Halt Soaring Inflation; Chaos To Follow. “Up until now, Argentina’s descent into a hyperinflationary basket case, with a crashing currency and loss of outside funding was relatively moderate and controlled. All this is about to change. Today, in a futile attempt to halt inflation, the government of Cristina Kirchner announced a two-month price freeze on supermarket products.”

This never works, but ignorant or dishonest politicians always try it. Luckily, nothing like this could happen here.

And then there's that "dimwit conspiracy theorist" named Bill Gross who runs the world's largest bond fund:
Speed Read for Credit Supernova
1) Why is our credit market running out of heat or fuel?
a) As it expands at a rate of trillions per year, real growth in the economy has failed to respond. More credit goes to pay interest than future investment.

b) Zero-based interest rates, which are the result of QE and credit creation, have negative as well as positive effects. Historic business models may be negatively affected and investment spending may be dampened.

c) Look to the Japanese historical example.
2) What options should an investor consider?
a) Seek inflation protection in credit market assets/ shorten durations.

b) Increase real assets/commodities/stable cash flow equities at the margin.

c) Accept lower future returns in portfolio planning.
William H. Gross

"I Do It All The Time": The Kim Kardashian O Skeet Shooting

Bruce Krasting absolutely demolishes the idiot lib-commies surrounding the God King who put out the recent laughable O-gone-shooting pic that don't even know what they don't know:

The President Shoots?? | Zero Hedge: "Anyway, I know a thing or two about skeet shooting. In this sport you have beginner shooters who don't really know what they are doing, you have amateurs that are "regular" shooters who take it seriously, and you have guys and gals that shoot 25 out of 25, again and again.

The following is a picture of a person who has not shot skeet before. This person doesn't know how to hold the gun properly. This person is going to get a big recoil in the arm that will hurt. No one has bothered to show this person how to hold a gun. This person has not been taught how to position the body to make a successful shot. This person has no chance of hitting a moving target. This person is not wearing the proper clothing for a skeet range (padded vest that has pockets for 25 shells). This person is pretending to shoot skeet. This is a photo-op:"

RTWT. No need to photoshop this at all. It's already risible.

Bruce points out that this is what real shooters look like:

You may be wondering about the title of this post. After looking at the following pic you'll understand -- which of the two previous pictures is this one most like?

Yup. Kim and O like to do the same thing to other people "all the time" ... and it most certainly doesn't involve clays.

COTD: Why The God King Wants The Coal Mines Closed

Conventional Wisdom, Unconventional Oil | Watts Up With That?: "The Liquid Solvent Extraction (LSE) process has been capable of producing synthetic crude oil (i.e. syncrude) from coal at competitive cost (n.b. cost and not price) with crude oil since 1994.

We proved the technical and economic abilities of the LSE process with a demonstration plant at Point Of Ayr in North Wales."
RTWC (read the whole comment). This comment is a great example of addressing the weakest part of Willis' post (about the politicization of oil industry terminology) which is the failure to explicitly take on the energy returned on energy invested (EROEI) argument for "peak oil".

This recalls the "genius central planners" from over a hundred years ago who predicted "peak horse sh*t" in our largest cities if things went on the way they were. Needless to say they were too dimwitted to predict the rise of the auto and Henry Ford (among others). No doubt if they had the power and level of vision back then that our current God King has today we would today instead be riding around on horses with corks up their *sses. \sarc

The simple fact is that the deep "R" part of technology R&D cannot be planned -- and the "D" part can sometimes be nearly as bad to predict depending on the quality of management which all to often leads to an overly politicized game of "schedule chicken". And that's all among people who are reasonably technical.

Add actual bozo politicians to the mix like our current God King who publicly admits that he struggles with the 7th grade math competence level where orders of magnitude are taught and you wonder why we have the following household budget (scaled from what laughingly passes as a FedGov budget for your improved understanding)?:
"Why the U.S. was downgraded:
• U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
• Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
• New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
• National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
• Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's your household budget:
• Annual family income: $21,700
• Money the family spent: $38,200
• New debt on the credit card: $16,500
• Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
• Total budget cuts: $385"
Actually, this is now somewhat dated -- it's worse now. And that's using FedGov's own numbers which are completely fraudulent when held up to the accounting standards that private corporations -- except the banking oligarchs of course -- must meet.

Unfortunately, "peak horse sh*t" by the politicians and central planners seems to have continued unabated to this day...

COTD N: Changing The Focus

BREAKING: an encouraging admission of lower climate sensitivity by a ‘hockey team’ scientist, along with new problems for the IPCC | Watts Up With That?: "Robin says: February 1, 2013 at 11:07 am: Anthony–

Your mention of Mann reminded me that these climate “scientists” are working most closely with research universities like PSU and Boulder that are simultaneously taking the lead on using their colleges of education and psych and sociology departments to change the focus of K-12 more to social and emotional learning and behavioral interventions that apply to all students.

Given the expressed goal to change beliefs to accept the models via schools no matter what the temperature trends, it’s hardly coincidental that PennState is pushing Patterning Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) for All Students while Boulder is pushing Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems for All Students.

Both Boulder and Penn State are determined to change the students since they cannot control the weather or the climate. Not that they recognize the difference much anymore."
Ugh.  The Gramscian long march continues apace... And while we're at it, I'll put some more of the background where you can't miss it:
The seditious role of the community organiser was developed by an extreme left intellectual called Saul Alinsky. He was a radical Chicago activist who, by the time he died in 1972, had had a profound influence on the highest levels of the Democratic party. Alinsky was a ‘transformational Marxist’ in the mould of Antonio Gramsci, who promoted the strategy of a ‘long march through the institutions’ by capturing the culture and turning it inside out as the most effective means of overturning western society. In similar vein, Alinsky condemned the New Left for alienating the general public by its demonstrations and outlandish appearance. The revolution had to be carried out through stealth and deception. Its proponents had to cultivate an image of centrism and pragmatism. A master of infiltration, Alinsky wooed Chicago mobsters and Wall Street financiers alike. And successive Democratic politicians fell under his spell.

CPOTD: Waterboard Watch

Well, here's an interesting comment pair of the day (CPTOD) on a Power Line post on "Zero Dark Thirty":

Watching “Zero Dark Thirty” with the CIA | Power Line: Charlie Dempewolf · Mankato State University

I realize this has been said before, but it bears repeating. There are literally thousands of U.S. military troops who were waterboarded by their own government (I'm one of them). In my case, the waterboarding technique was one of those that was demonstrated in US Navy survival school called SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape). To be honest, I was also physically beaten, to the point that my undershirt and flight suit were a bloody mess (Bloody nose). Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining. Matter of fact, I consider that 5 day school to be one of the best that I ever experienced. I learned more about myself - my limitations and what I could endure - than any other thing I ever experienced. I was 18 years old at the time. Waterboarding is extremely unpleasant, to be sure - but I disagree with Senator McCain on this point -- it is NOT torture. If it is - as McCain asserts - then perhaps the VA should consider disability compensation for every one of us that went through that school. After all, weren't we "tortured" by our own government with a technique that we won't even use on our enemies?

Reply · · 2 hours ago

dean_w_schulze (signed in using yahoo)

The people who disagree most strongly with waterboarding (like Lawrence O'Donnell) don't care about waterboarding when it is done on our own people. In a forum on CNN one woman dismissed it because "they were volunteers". So "torture" becomes not torture when it is used on our own people.
Just like American citizens will become "volunteers" for commie lib "reeducation" camps if we give them enough power?
Say, now that we have the "skeet shooting" pic of the dear reader (man, the teleprompter that day must have been an unhappy camper unless it was wearing an "Iron Man" suit) perhaps next we'll hear his full-throated denunciation of Bill Ayers as being an unrepentant terrorist?

Yeah, don't hold your breath...

And I'm guessing that Marsha's clays contest ain't gonna happen either.  And she deserves the highest respect for this challenge since anyone with a brain knows she's actually risking her life even if he wasn't trying to hit her!

Unless she borrowed the "Iron Man" suit from the teleprompter...
